We are excited to offer two Practical Legal Training (PLT) placement opportunities at our Centre. 

Our PLT program will offer opportunities for PLT students to:

• Apply knowledge and skills to real-life legal problems within SMLS’ practice areas
• Engage in research and analysis, draft documents and correspondence, interact with clients and other parties and use SMLS’ digital file management system
• Be involved in the diverse work of a community lawyer, including contributions to community development work and policy and advocacy

SMLS is committed to providing high quality PLT placements. We aim to:

• Create a supportive environment which encourages PLT students to ask questions and discuss any issues
• Give regular feedback and guidance on work 
• Give well defined tasks, provide clear instructions and realistic frameworks to complete tasks 
• Ensure workloads are manageable
• Provide PLT students the opportunities with varied work of increasing degrees of difficulty which requires the use of a range of different skills
• Encourage self-development

We are offering 60-day placements of 3 days per week over 20 weeks.
